DETROIT (AP) — A company that sells replacement winter tires is recalling more than 541,000 tires in the United States, saying they don’t have sufficient snow resistance to meet North American standards.
Prinx Chengshan Tire North America is recalling more than 100 sizes of Fortune Tormenta and Prinx High Country tires with the three-peaked snowflake symbol on the sidewall.
The company said in a document released Tuesday by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that the tire passed European testing but likely would not meet traction standards in North America.
Safety officials say tires that don’t have enough traction on snow can increase the risk of crashes.
Prinx Chengshan is considering ways to solve this problem. Owners will be notified by letter starting February 1st. If you have any questions, please call the company at (310) 205-8355, extension 109.
