La Jolla Playhouse Managing Director Speaks At Solana Beach Event

Founded in 1947, La Jolla Playhouse is a place where artists and audiences come together to create and experience new and innovative work for American audiences. On Tuesday, January 14th, join La Jolla Playhouse Managing Director Debbie Buchholz to discuss how La Jolla Playhouse is helping make San Diego one of America’s most exciting theater cities . Come at 5:30 PM and enjoy a “Mix and Mingle” snack before the 6:00 PM lecture at the Solana Beach Library. The library is located at 157 Stevens Avenue, Solana Beach.

Over the past 40 years, the La Jolla Playhouse has sent 36 shows to Broadway, and many more have developed at the Playhouse and transferred to theaters in New York and beyond. Discover why La Jolla Playhouse is a special “incubator” for new productions. How do projects come together at the Playhouse, be developed at the Playhouse, and then transferred to productions in the United States and around the world? What role do San Diego audiences play in that development process?

Mr. Buchholz joined the Playhouse in 2002, first serving as general manager and then managing director. She is responsible for overall strategic planning, financial management, marketing, development, production management and labor relations direction. Buchholz is president of the League of Resident Theaters (LORT), the largest professional theater organization in the United States, and a recipient of the San Diego Women in Business Award from the San Diego Business Journal.

Prior to joining the Playhouse, he served as a consultant to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, DC. She is a graduate of the University of California, San Diego and Harvard Law School. She lives in Solana Beach with her husband and three children. This is a collaborative presentation sponsored by Solana Beach Community Connection (SBCC) and Friends of the Solana Beach Library. The event is free and open to the public.
