In celebration of Filipino American History Month this October, San Francisco’s renowned restaurant, Abaca, is hosting a special dinner series from October 18–24 that highlights Filipino cuisine and culture. The event, led by chef-owner Francis Ang, is a unique opportunity to experience the diverse and rich culinary traditions of the Philippines, while also supporting cultural outreach and awareness. A standout event of the series is the Kamayan Feast, where guests will engage in the traditional Filipino practice of eating with their hands, sharing dishes in a communal, family-style feast. The grand finale of the dinner series is a special tasting menu titled “Paubaya,” which translates to “surrender” or “let go” in Filipino. The intimate tasting menu is a high-end culinary experience that blends traditional Filipino flavors with modern techniques, designed to take guests on a culinary journey through the Philippines’ regional dishes. Participating chefs, including well-known figures from acclaimed Filipino establishments like Señor Sisig, Ox & Tiger, and Musang, will collaborate with Chef Ang to craft a unique dining experience that honors the diversity of Filipino cuisine across the United States.

Each event is designed to support nonprofit organizations that work to uplift Filipino culture and heritage.
