Dangerous Surf Conditions Expected At San Diego County Beaches Starting

A strong swell from the northwest will create potentially hazardous conditions for swimming and surfing along the San Diego County coastline Sunday through early Christmas Day, with wave heights reaching 11 to 13 feet in some locations. The National Weather Service has announced that there is a possibility.

Most of the waves are in the 6 to 10 foot range and hit the shore at an angle that is steepest on west-facing shores and can cause mild shore erosion. Sea surface temperatures will range from 57 degrees to 59 degrees.

“Inexperienced swimmers should avoid getting out of the water,” the Bureau of Meteorology said in a statement. “Fishing or observing waves from exposed coastal structures or rocks is extremely dangerous when waves are high. Very large waves can suddenly strike previously dry areas. There is.”
